Smart ring water resistance explained

What IP68, 5 ATM and 10 ATM do—and do not—promise.

Two generic smart rings arranged on neutral material samples

Definition

IP ratings and ATM claims come from controlled tests; they are not unlimited depth guarantees.

Bottom line

Follow exact maker instructions. Do not assume a 100 m claim permits diving, hot tubs, detergents or high-pressure water.

Different standards

IP focuses on ingress under set conditions; ATM describes pressure resistance. Marketing shorthand can hide duration limits.

After water

Rinse salt or chemicals if instructed, dry ring and finger, and never charge wet hardware.
